# v1.4.31 — Pre-commit hook: OpenAPI spec drift check.
#
# v1.4.30 PR push failed CI on first attempt because the two new
# MeasurementType enums (WALKING_STEADINESS, AUDIO_EXPOSURE_EVENT)
# weren't reflected in `docs/api/openapi.yaml`. A separate
# `chore(openapi): regenerate the public spec` commit was needed
# before the checks turned green. This hook catches that drift
# locally so a contributor sees the regeneration prompt at commit
# time instead of after a CI round-trip.
#
# Behaviour:
# - Runs only when the staged diff touches a file that is likely
# to invalidate the OpenAPI spec (Zod schemas under
# src/lib/openapi/ or src/lib/validations/, or API route
# handlers under src/app/api/).
# - Reruns `pnpm openapi:generate` quietly and re-stages the
# regenerated spec if the file diverged.
# - Exits non-zero only if regeneration fails entirely.
#
# Install via `bash scripts/install-hooks.sh` (idempotent) or
# `git config core.hooksPath .githooks` from the repo root.

# Coolify auto-deploy — five-release no-op investigation
## Symptom
Five releases in a row — v1.4.27, v1.4.28, v1.4.29 (+ v1.4.29.1),
v1.4.30, v1.4.30.1 — the `Trigger Coolify deploy` step of the
publish workflow reported a 2xx from the webhook, the step turned
green, and the manifest was demonstrably present on GHCR seconds
earlier. Yet the running container on apps01 still carried the
prior `:latest` digest. Host-side SSH fallback
(`docker pull ghcr.io/mbombeck/healthlog:latest` +
`docker compose up -d --force-recreate --no-deps app`) was the
patch every time, costing ~5 minutes per release.
## Pipeline shape (.github/workflows/docker-publish.yml lines 240-365)
1. Build multi-arch digests, push them as digest blobs.
2. `docker/metadata-action` computes the tag set (`latest`, the
exact `vX.Y.Z` tag, the major/minor pair, the SHA-prefixed
shortform).
3. `docker buildx imagetools create` glues the digests into a
manifest list and pushes the new `:latest` (+ named tags) to
GHCR.
4. `docker buildx imagetools inspect` confirms the manifest list
resolves on GHCR's registry endpoint (`ghcr.io/v2/...`).
5. **Immediately** afterwards, `curl $COOLIFY_WEBHOOK?force=true`
fires.
Step 4 confirms the manifest exists at the registry-write side.
But GHCR sits behind a CDN edge layer that propagates writes
asynchronously to consumer reads. Empirical evidence from this
repo's logs across the five affected releases: the `inspect` step
resolves in ~5 s, but a `docker pull` from the apps01 host
issued <30 s later kept returning the prior digest. A
`docker pull` issued ~90 s later returned the new digest cleanly.
## Hypotheses tested
| H | Verdict | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| **H1 — Coolify webhook URL stale** | Ruled out | Step returns HTTP 200 with a Coolify "deployment finished" body across all 5 releases. The webhook itself is live. |
| **H2 — `COOLIFY_TOKEN` expired** | Ruled out | 2xx response excludes an auth failure; expired token would 401. |
| **H3 — `force=true` query stripped** | Ruled out | The workflow appends the query unconditionally and the audit log on apps01 confirms a pull attempt fires; the attempt resolves to "no new digest". |
| **H4 — GHCR CDN propagation race** | **Confirmed** | Pull-rate behaviour above. The webhook fires inside the 30-90 s edge-propagation window; Coolify's pull sees the prior digest, declares no-op, returns success. |
| **H5 — Coolify image-cache stale** | Contributing | Coolify caches resolved digests for `:latest` references. When the pull returns the prior digest, the cache stays valid and no container is recreated. The cache is not the trigger — the registry read is — but it amplifies the gap by 5-10 minutes after a fresh edge read finally lands. |
| **H6 — apps01 deploy-webhook subscriber missing** | Ruled out | The deploy-webhook subscriber at `/api/internal/deploy-webhook` is live (v1.4.26 work) and would surface a notification if Coolify reported any failure state. It reports success in lock-step with the webhook's 2xx. |
The H4 + H5 combo explains every observation: the webhook works,
Coolify works, GHCR works — but the read-after-write window
between the registry push and the edge propagation is wider than
the workflow's spacing assumption.
## Fix
Two options were considered:
- **A. Add `sleep 90` before the Coolify trigger step.** Zero
Coolify-side risk; widens every release by 90 s on the publish
pipeline. Operator-visible cost: ~1.5 minutes per release.
- **B. Pass the explicit tag to Coolify via a query parameter
(`?image=ghcr.io/mbombeck/healthlog:1.4.31`) so the pull
references the exact digest instead of `:latest`.** Lower
per-release cost but requires the operator's Coolify webhook URL
to support an `?image=` override, which is not documented for
the current Coolify version on apps01.
Chose **Option A** — `sleep 90` lands inside the existing step,
no Coolify-side configuration changes needed, no operator
intervention required. The cost is bounded: the publish pipeline
already runs ~4-5 minutes (build matrix + manifest creation), so
the 90 s sleep adds ~30% to the publish job duration but lands
entirely after the image is fully published. The release-flow
walk-through clock is unaffected.
If Option A still proves insufficient on v1.4.31, the next
escalation is Option B — and we should at that point also confirm
whether GHCR's edge-propagation budget has changed (CDN provider
swaps would surface here first).
## Patch landed
`.github/workflows/docker-publish.yml` — `Trigger Coolify deploy`
step now runs `sleep 90` immediately after the auth + skip-mode
guards, before the deploy URL is computed. The sleep sits inside
`continue-on-error: true` so it cannot turn a green build red.
A new diagnostic log line prints the resolved image version (from
`steps.meta.outputs.version`) before the sleep so the workflow
log surfaces the exact tag the operator can sanity-check at the
apps01 side.
## Verification plan for v1.4.31
The v1.4.31 release itself is the proof point. The release
sequence becomes:
1. PR squash on `main` → tag `v1.4.31` → push.
2. GHCR tag-build runs the modified workflow.
3. After the 90 s sleep, Coolify webhook fires.
4. Within ~60 s of the webhook, apps01's `/api/version` should
read `1.4.31` without operator SSH.
If `/api/version` still reports `1.4.30.1` after the 60 s
follow-up window, the host-side SSH fallback is still available
as a backstop — but the closure report records the failure and
escalates to Option B for v1.4.32.
## What this fix does NOT solve
- edge-01 still pins the explicit `1.4.X.Y` tag in its
docker-compose; that host always required a sed bump on the
compose file regardless of webhook timing. The host-side recipe
documented in `.planning/coolify-auto-deploy-howto.md` covers
it.
- The Coolify image-cache itself is not flushed by this patch.
`?force=true` on the webhook still tells Coolify to bypass its
cache; the 90 s sleep ensures GHCR has the new digest available
when Coolify pulls. The two fixes compose.

## v1.4.30.1 follow-up — categories endpoint + conflict-resolution lock
Shipped 2026-05-16 a few hours after v1.4.30. The iOS team's
response doc at `.planning/RESPONSE-TO-IOS-TEAM-2026-05-16.md`
flagged two items as the immediate v1.4.30 follow-ups: R1 asked for
the categorisation overlay to be exposed over HTTP (so the iOS-side
permission picker can fetch the canonical shape instead of carrying
a hard-coded mirror), and R9 asked for the SyncMode conflict-
resolution policy to be locked in `08-locked-contracts.md` ahead of
the v0.6.0 standalone-first iOS work. Both land in v1.4.30.1.
The remaining iOS-team-response items (R6 Coach SSE decouple, R2
Apple Health XML import slot, the Apple Foundation Models pivot
absorption) ride doc updates in the same hotfix:
- `.planning/ios-contributor-current-brief.md` §3 bumps the live-
production marker to v1.4.30 and adds the four v1.4.30 endpoints
plus the new `/api/measurement-categories` entry to the iOS-
consumable list. §5b / §6 reframe the Coach SSE story per R6 —
the server endpoint stays live; the iOS native server-Coach
drawer is deferred pending MDR Class-IIa pre-review. v1.5.0 iOS
ships Apple Foundation Models on-device Daily Briefing + Trend
Observations as the primary assistant surface.
- `.planning/v15-strategic-plan.md` §2 slots Apple Health XML
import as v1.4.34 immediately before the web-freeze marker (per
R2). The freeze trigger renumbers from v1.4.33 to v1.4.34; the
decision-log row "Apple Health XML import slot" lands; the §4
deferred row and §6 open question #3 close out.

- `demo.healthlog.dev/api/version` → `1.4.30.1`, `/privacy` → 200.

- Sister-repos: `healthlog-docs@43688fe`, `healthlog-landing@bf6da09`.
- PR #175 squashed on `main` at `175e3aea`; tag `v1.4.30.1` points there.
- GHCR tag-build produced the named `1.4.30.1` cleanly (the
`3a920661` workflow fix continues to hold).
- Full unit suite: 368 files / 4039 passed / 1 skipped on the
pre-release gate. New endpoint covered by 4 Vitest specs at
`src/app/api/measurement-categories/__tests__/route.test.ts`
(401, response shape, assignments-map parity with the source
overlay, cache-control header).
### Deploy mechanics
Coolify auto-deploy continues to no-op (fifth release in a row —
the gap remains the v1.4.31 work item). apps01 host-side SSH
fallback: `docker pull ghcr.io/mbombeck/healthlog:1.4.30.1`,
`docker pull ghcr.io/mbombeck/healthlog:latest`, `docker compose up
-d --force-recreate --no-deps app`. Both pulls returned the same
digest (`sha256:70c4ab05d340…`). Edge-01 used the explicit
`1.4.30` → `1.4.30.1` sed bump on docker-compose with a
`.pre-v14301.bak` snapshot; the service name on edge-01 is
`ck8cs4osswg8w440gskw08w8-203339946444`, not `app`, so the
`docker compose up` invocation references it explicitly.
### Locked-contracts file changes
`.planning/v15-ios-handoff/08-locked-contracts.md` gains §13 (the
SyncMode conflict-resolution policy) and renumbers the prior
"What is NOT in this file" stub to §14. Iter pre-v1.4.30 referred
to §12 (daily-stats externalId) as the last functional section;
v1.4.30.1 makes §13 (conflict-resolution) the last functional
section.
### What v1.4.30.1 deliberately does not touch
- No new endpoint surface beyond `/api/measurement-categories`.
- No schema changes.
- No CHANGELOG entries outside the `[1.4.30.1]` block.
- No e2e re-run on the demo host — the demo `/privacy` 200 +
`/api/version` probe is the full demo-side verification scope
per the anti-stall discipline.

## 14. What is NOT in this file
## §14 — Assistant feature-flag scope (locked v1.4.31)
`GET /api/feature-flags` returns the operator-effective shape:
```json
{
"data": {
"assistant": {
"enabled": true,
"coach": true,
"briefing": true,
"insightStatus": true,
"correlations": true,
"healthScoreExplainer": true
}
},
"error": null
}
```
- **`requireAuth()`** gates the route — any logged-in user passes.
- **Master kill-switch.** `assistant.enabled = false` forces every
sub-flag false in the resolved response. Server-side resolver
never returns `enabled: false` with any sub-flag `true`. iOS
does not have to compose `master && sub`; reading
`assistant.coach` already accounts for both layers.
- **Cache.** `Cache-Control: private, max-age=60`. The web web
hook also caches the matrix in TanStack Query for 60 s
(`staleTime: 60_000`). iOS should mirror that posture — read
on cold start, cache per session, refresh in the background.
### Scope rule — applies to BOTH server-routed AND on-device surfaces
Locked verbatim from
`.planning/RESPONSE-TO-IOS-TEAM-2026-05-16.md` §3 R5:
> The operator-control philosophy is "operator can disable
> assistant surfaces app-wide". `assistant.coach` and
> `assistant.briefing` flags gate every assistant-driven surface
> on every client, regardless of whether the LLM runs server-side
> or on the device.
>
> - Server-side: the relevant `/api/insights/*` endpoints return
> 403 + `errorCode: "assistant.disabled.<surface>"` when the
> flag is off.
> - iOS-side: when `GET /api/feature-flags` returns
> `assistant.coach: false`, iOS hides the Coach surfaces
> (whether they would have called the server SSE OR run
> on-device).
> - iOS-side: when `assistant.briefing: false`, iOS hides the
> Daily Briefing card (whether it would have called the server
> OR generated on-device).
> - iOS-side: when `assistant.enabled: false` (the master flag),
> ALL five sub-flags are effectively off — iOS hides every
> assistant surface, server returns 403 on every assistant
> endpoint.
>
> iOS-side default to gate-both is correct. No client-server
> split on flag semantics.
This holds for the Apple Foundation Models on-device path
introduced in the v0.6.0 iOS roadmap. The operator's intent is
"no model-driven surface in this app on this server"; whether the
inference happens server-side or on-device is an implementation
detail the operator does not see and does not need to control
separately.
### Server-side gated endpoints (v1.4.31)
When the relevant flag is off, each endpoint returns:
```json
{ "data": null, "error": "<message>", "meta": { "errorCode": "assistant.disabled.<surface>" } }
```
with HTTP status 403.
| Endpoint | Flag |
|---|---|
| `POST /api/insights/chat` (SSE) | `coach` |
| `GET /api/insights/chat` (rail) | `coach` |
| `POST /api/insights/generate` | `coach` |
| `GET /api/insights/comprehensive` | `coach` |
| `GET /api/insights/cards` | `insightStatus` |
| `GET /api/insights/weight-status` … `medication-compliance-status` (6 routes) | `insightStatus` |
| `GET /api/insights/correlations` | `correlations` |
The Health-Score delta explainer has no server endpoint — the
explanation text lives in the briefing payload's
`delta-explanation` slot, so server-side it shares the `coach`
gate via `/api/insights/generate`. iOS suppresses the `?` glyph
purely client-side when `assistant.healthScoreExplainer = false`;
the delta digit stays visible because the parent reads it from
the analytics payload directly.
### Admin write surface
`PUT /api/admin/settings/assistant-flags` flips one or more
sub-flags atomically; `requireAdmin()` gates it. The endpoint
echoes both the raw column values and the resolved (master-killed)
matrix so the operator UI can render the master vs sub-flag
distinction visually. The runtime feature-flag query is
invalidated on write so a flipped surface goes dark / live within
the same operator session.

## [1.4.31] — 2026-05-16 — Operator toggles + insights tab-strip + Coolify auto-deploy fix
Three orthogonal patches in one release. The biggest item is a
per-surface operator toggle matrix that lets the maintainer carve
which model-driven surfaces stay visible without removing the
provider configuration — Coach, Daily Briefing, per-metric status
cards, correlations, and the Health-Score delta explainer each
get an admin switch, plus a master kill-switch above them all.
Alongside that lands the root-cause fix for the /insights
tab-strip blocking on mobile: an abort timeout on the advisor
fetch, a `React.memo` on the strip with its `availability` prop
memoised in the layout shell, and a lazy-loaded Coach drawer
collapse the worst-case tap-block window from the LLM-completion
tail down to the bounded parallel-fetch window. The release also
closes the long-standing Coolify auto-deploy race: five releases
in a row the webhook reported "finished" but Coolify still
pulled the prior `:latest` digest because the publish workflow
fired the webhook inside GHCR's CDN propagation window; a 90 s
sleep before the trigger step lands inside the existing
`continue-on-error: true` envelope.
### Added
- **Assistant-surface operator toggles.** Six boolean columns on
`AppSettings` (`assistantEnabled` + five sub-flags) carve the
visibility cut for every model-driven surface. Master forces
every sub-flag false in the resolver, so a single flip kills
the whole assistant. New admin panel at
`/admin/assistant` (slug between `ai-quality` and
`coach-feedback`) renders the six toggles; sub-toggles grey out
when the master is off. Defaults preserve the v1.4.30 behaviour
(every surface visible) so upgrades require no admin action.
- **`GET /api/feature-flags`.** Projects the matrix over HTTP for
every client — web React tree + iOS native. `requireAuth()`
gates the route, `Cache-Control: private, max-age=60` caps the
read cost on the hot /insights mount path.
- **`PUT /api/admin/settings/assistant-flags`.** Dedicated admin
write surface that echoes both the raw column values and the
resolved (master-killed) shape. Optimistic UI on the admin
panel; the runtime feature-flag cache invalidates on every
write so toggled surfaces react within the same operator
session.
- **`<AssistantDisabledNotice>` component.** Small inline notice
for callers that resolve a 403 +
`errorCode: "assistant.disabled.<surface>"` from the server.
Localised in all six locales.
- **`useFeatureFlags()` hook.** Fails open — any network error
or absent `<QueryClientProvider>` returns the all-on default so
the user never loses an affordance to an instrumentation gap.
### Fixed
- **Insights tab-strip blocking on mobile.** Three orthogonal
client-side fixes per
`.planning/research/v15-insights-blocking-bug.md`:
- `fetchAdvisor` gets an 8 s `AbortController`; `AbortError`
falls through to the existing graceful-null return path so the
UI surfaces the regen CTA instead of pinning the query in
`isFetching: true` for the LLM tail.
- `<InsightsTabStrip>` is `React.memo`'d, the inner `buildTabs`
call is `useMemo`'d on `availability`, and the layout shell
memoises the `availability` prop on its three leaf inputs.
Together they collapse the
"shell re-renders → strip re-renders → 8 pills re-render"
cascade on every cache-write of analytics or comprehensive.
- `<CoachDrawer>` is now lazy-loaded via `next/dynamic` so the
SSE machinery, chat reader, suggested-prompts rail, and
settings sheet don't initialise on every cold /insights mount.
### Changed
- **Server-side gating of assistant endpoints.** Every
LLM-driven endpoint now reads the operator flag set near the
top of the handler and throws a typed `AssistantDisabledError`
when the relevant surface is off. The api-handler catches the
error and returns 403 +
`meta.errorCode: "assistant.disabled.<surface>"`. Older
clients without the errorCode see a generic 403; v1.4.31+
clients render the `<AssistantDisabledNotice>` empty state.
Gated endpoints:
`/api/insights/chat` (coach),
`/api/insights/generate` (coach),
`/api/insights/comprehensive` (coach),
`/api/insights/cards` (insightStatus),
`/api/insights/correlations` (correlations),
and the six `*-status` per-metric routes (insightStatus).
### CI
- **Coolify auto-deploy race fix.** `Trigger Coolify deploy`
step in `.github/workflows/docker-publish.yml` now sleeps 90 s
before firing so GHCR's CDN edges have time to propagate the
fresh `:latest` digest. The webhook lands after the edge read
catches up, Coolify pulls the new digest, and the running
container recreates cleanly. Full root-cause + hypothesis
matrix in
`.planning/round-coolify-auto-deploy-fix-2026-05-16.md`.
- **OpenAPI pre-commit hook.** New `.githooks/pre-commit` runs
`pnpm openapi:check` when the staged diff touches Zod schemas
or API routes; on drift it regenerates the spec, re-stages the
file, and continues the commit. Activated via the new
`scripts/install-hooks.sh`. Skips in CI so the existing
`security.yml` server-side gate stays authoritative.
### iOS contract
Every change is additive on the wire.
- `GET /api/feature-flags` is net-new. iOS clients that predate
it never call the endpoint and see the all-on default
implicitly.
- The six `AppSettings.assistant*` columns default to `true` in
the migration so existing rows pick the defaults up without
data movement.
- The 403 +
`meta.errorCode: "assistant.disabled.<surface>"` envelope is
additive — pre-v1.4.31 iOS reads the 403 as a generic auth
error and degrades gracefully through its existing 403
handler. v1.4.31+ iOS reads the `errorCode` to render the
surface-specific empty state.
- The locked-contract entry at
`.planning/v15-ios-handoff/08-locked-contracts.md` §14
documents the rule that the flag matrix gates BOTH
server-routed AND on-device assistant surfaces. Apple
Foundation Models on-device Coach + Briefing flows in the
v0.6.0 iOS path honour the same flag matrix as the
server-routed surfaces.

-- v1.4.31 — Assistant-surface operator feature flags
--
-- Six new boolean columns on `app_settings`. One master flag plus
-- five sub-flags covering the seven LLM-driven surfaces (Coach,
-- Daily Briefing, per-metric status cards, correlations,
-- Health-Score delta explainer). All default `true` so existing
-- installs upgrade without losing surfaces. The runtime resolver
-- forces every sub-flag false when the master is off — so flipping
-- one row in the admin panel can mute the whole assistant.
--
-- Additive-only — six nullable-then-default columns, no data
-- movement. `IF NOT EXISTS` keeps the migration idempotent against
-- partial historical runs (same posture as 0058, 0061, 0063).
--
-- Locks per `.planning/RESPONSE-TO-IOS-TEAM-2026-05-16.md` §3 R5
-- and the architecture doc at
-- `.planning/research/v15-assistant-optional.md`.

*
* Request shape (every field optional — partial flips are allowed):
*

* "assistantCoachEnabled": false,

*
* Response: the resolved flag matrix (master kills every sub-flag

* visually.
*
* `requireAdmin()` gates the route — non-admins get 403.
