From de088febe6b8423c830519a6b5daa816a2c73c0d Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: =?UTF-8?q?Marc-Andr=C3=A9=20Bombeck?= Date: Sun, 19 Jul 2026 05:31:38 +0200 Subject: [PATCH 01/13] Cap the medication-extract budget by the paying credential MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit The route used the enforceBudget + recordSpend read-then-write pair and passed no cap, so every call measured against the operator ceiling — a self-hoster on their own key was rationed by the operator's bill while paying for their own usage. It also left the TOCTOU window the rest of the codebase closed: concurrent calls could each read a sub-cap total and all proceed. Move the gate after the chain resolves and reserve atomically against resolveDailyCap(chain), matching runStatusCompletion and the document paths. Reconcile on every exit: the provider's reported count on a completed call, a full refund when nothing was generated. --- .../extract/__tests__/route.test.ts | 131 +++++++++++++++++- src/app/api/medications/extract/route.ts | 72 ++++++++-- 2 files changed, 183 insertions(+), 20 deletions(-) diff --git a/src/app/api/medications/extract/__tests__/route.test.ts b/src/app/api/medications/extract/__tests__/route.test.ts index 09d7fbcf3..b80464eb3 100644 --- a/src/app/api/medications/extract/__tests__/route.test.ts +++ b/src/app/api/medications/extract/__tests__/route.test.ts @@ -34,8 +34,16 @@ vi.mock("@/lib/rate-limit", () => ({ vi.mock("@/lib/ai/coach/budget", () => ({ buildDateKey: vi.fn(() => "2026-05-28"), - enforceBudget: vi.fn(async () => undefined), - recordSpend: vi.fn(async () => undefined), + reserveBudget: vi.fn(async () => ({ + allowed: true, + reserved: 700, + totalAfter: 700, + })), + reconcileSpend: vi.fn(async () => undefined), + // The REAL cap resolver is used in the cap test below; Scope: the run bodies never re-checked ctx.canWrite. Enforcement was real but lived entirely in the registration decision, and the test asserted registration only — so a refactor that registered the write tools unconditionally and meant to refuse at call time would open the surface with the suite still green. Wrap every run body in a scope guard at the registry level, so a new write tool inherits it, and drive the run bodies directly from a read-only context in the test. Free text: medication names, doses, treatment classes and lab analyte names were interpolated into tool prose with no delimiter. A lab analyte name is transcribed out of an uploaded document, so a hostile document chooses it, and the write tools ride the same wire. Fence the assembled prose with the shared data-fence markers and scrub short result titles, which would leak markers into a host's result list. Confirm: the header called the confirm flag a PROTOCOL-LEVEL CONFIRM GATE. It is a client-asserted boolean with nothing binding it to a prior preview. Binding it to a server-issued preview token would prove only that a preview call happened, which any client can do, so it buys no human-in-the-loop for a round trip and server state the stateless transport does not want. Its only caller was runWithFallback(), which had no production caller — every live surface runs runRawCompletionWithFallback. So none of it executed. Wiring it into the live path was the alternative and it is not viable: the live insightResultSchema has no citations[] field at all and treats metricSource as optional, so the cross-check would have rejected essentially every generation rather than tightening anything. Removed: runWithFallback and its param/result types, generateInsight and its private helpers, findUncitedRecommendations, findRecommendationsMissingRationale, the never-thrown InsightSchemaError and the isHardProviderFailure branch that excluded it, and computeConfidence — a deterministic override that only ran inside the dead wrapper. Kept: buildRetryCorrectionMessage, which comprehensive-generate sends on its own retry leg; the file it lived in is renamed to match what it now holds. aiInsightResponseSchema stays as the shape that message describes. Note the retry prompt asks for a stricter payload than the live validator requires — that mismatch predates this and is left alone. computeCitationCoverage is untouched and still live: it is a metric, not a gate, and v1.30.24 wired it into the comprehensive post-parse step. Chain-runner coverage the deleted tests carried (last-working cache, empty-input guard) is ported onto runRawCompletionWithFallback, which shares the machinery. --- src/components/insights/confidence-meter.tsx | 2 +- .../citation-coverage-logging.test.ts | 99 +------ .../ai/__tests__/citation-enforcement.test.ts | 149 ---------- .../ai/__tests__/confidence-schema.test.ts | 2 +- .../ai/__tests__/confidence-wrapper.test.ts | 203 ------------- src/lib/ai/__tests__/confidence.test.ts | 150 ---------- src/lib/ai/__tests__/generate-insight.test.ts | 262 ---------------- .../insight-generator-prompt.test.ts | 28 +- .../__tests__/insight-response-schema.test.ts | 103 +++++++ src/lib/ai/__tests__/provider-runner.test.ts | 159 +--------- src/lib/ai/__tests__/rationale-schema.test.ts | 75 ----- .../ai/__tests__/rationale-wrapper.test.ts | 172 ----------- src/lib/ai/citation-coverage.ts | 22 +- src/lib/ai/confidence.ts | 102 ------- src/lib/ai/generate-insight.ts | 279 ------------------ src/lib/ai/prompts/insight-generator.ts | 2 +- src/lib/ai/provider-runner.ts | 137 ++------- src/lib/ai/retry-correction.ts | 60 ++++ src/lib/ai/schema.ts | 111 ++----- src/lib/insights/comprehensive-generate.ts | 6 +- 20 files changed, 231 insertions(+), 1892 deletions(-) delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/__tests__/confidence-wrapper.test.ts delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/__tests__/confidence.test.ts delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/__tests__/generate-insight.test.ts create mode 100644 src/lib/ai/__tests__/insight-response-schema.test.ts delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/__tests__/rationale-wrapper.test.ts delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/confidence.ts delete mode 100644 src/lib/ai/generate-insight.ts create mode 100644 src/lib/ai/retry-correction.ts diff --git a/src/components/insights/confidence-meter.tsx b/src/components/insights/confidence-meter.tsx index 7f33106ea..198222662 100644 --- a/src/components/insights/confidence-meter.tsx +++ b/src/components/insights/confidence-meter.tsx @@ -10,7 +10,7 @@ export type ConfidenceBand = "high" | "medium" | "low" | "draft"; export type ConfidenceMeterVariant = "bars" | "ring"; export interface ConfidenceMeterProps { - /** Score from `computeConfidence()` — 0..100, integer expected. */ + /** Score carried on the insight payload — 0..100, integer expected. */ value: number; /** Visual variant. Route the resolver through a shared coerceLocale(). - The Coach's trailing "reply now in X" clause said English for any non-German locale, overriding the correct system-prompt directive. Read the language name from a shared map instead. - Coach refusal copy was a de/en constant pair, answering four locales in English at the one turn the Coach is declining to help. Move the copy into the bundles; the EN/DE constants now derive from them. - The sleep-stage chart formatted axis ticks as en-US for four locales; the cycle calendar and the device-score tile followed the *browser* locale rather than the app locale. - Three components carried a byte-identical duration formatter that branched on German. Lift it to one key-driven helper. Polish needs a third plural tier: 2-4 takes a "few" form a two-form scheme cannot express, so "2 godzin temu" read as "2 of-hours ago". Add a pluralKey() helper driven by Intl.PluralRules and a Few tier to the relative-time and stale-hint keys. The five locales whose rules have no "few" category resolve exactly as before by construction, and their Few values mirror Other. Teach the reverse-coverage guard to expand a pluralKey() base into its three tiers. --- messages/de.json | 14 +- messages/en.json | 14 +- messages/es.json | 14 +- messages/fr.json | 14 +- messages/it.json | 14 +- messages/pl.json | 14 +- src/__tests__/i18n-reverse-coverage.test.ts | 11 + src/app/api/insights/chat/route.ts | 10 +- src/app/coach/conversations/page.tsx | 4 +- src/components/charts/trend-card.tsx | 21 +- src/components/cycle/cycle-calendar.tsx | 22 +- .../insights/coach-panel/history-rail.tsx | 4 +- src/components/insights/device-score-tile.tsx | 5 +- .../sleep-source-discrepancy-marker.tsx | 14 +- .../insights/sleep-stage-stacked-bar.tsx | 22 +- .../measurements/measurement-list.tsx | 28 +-- src/lib/ai/coach/refusal.ts | 69 +++--- src/lib/ai/coach/self-context-questions.ts | 15 +- .../plural-locale-completeness.test.ts | 201 ++++++++++++++++++ src/lib/i18n/config.ts | 31 +++ src/lib/i18n/duration.ts | 23 ++ src/lib/i18n/plural.ts | 67 ++++++ src/lib/i18n/relative-time.ts | 43 ++-- src/lib/jobs/reminder-phases.ts | 12 +- 24 files changed, 543 insertions(+), 143 deletions(-) create mode 100644 src/lib/i18n/__tests__/plural-locale-completeness.test.ts create mode 100644 src/lib/i18n/duration.ts create mode 100644 src/lib/i18n/plural.ts diff --git a/messages/de.json b/messages/de.json index 12a12c74c..768603e4d 100644 --- a/messages/de.json +++ b/messages/de.json @@ -42,7 +42,9 @@ "hidePassword": "Passwort verbergen", "learnMore": "Mehr erfahren", "dismiss": "Schließen", - "moreInfo": "Mehr Informationen" + "moreInfo": "Mehr Informationen", + "durationHoursMinutes": "{hours} Std. {minutes} Min.", + "durationMinutes": "{minutes} Min." Making it when the read failed states something false about their health history. The mental-wellbeing surface was the one that mattered: the assessment history read dropped isError entirely, so a failure left both instrument cards showing "not taken yet" and the detail sheet showing an empty trend. Someone with months of screening results was told, on a mental-health surface, that the results did not exist. It now tells loading, failed and genuinely empty apart, with a retry on the failure. Also swept: - the workouts insights page read isEmpty but not isError, so a failed list read fell through every branch to null and painted a titled shell with nothing in it; - the micronutrients card (not in the original list) rendered its "no nutrient data" empty state on a failed read, while its sibling hydration card already used the shared error card; - the medication detail page and the custom-metric values list showed an honest error with no way out. Both keep retry: false — right for a deleted row, wrong for a transient failure — and gain a user-initiated retry instead, which cannot storm; - /achievements rendered a blank page on a direct hit with the module disabled. It now bounces to /insights like every other gated page. The achievements query error branch, the custom-metric error branch and the chronotype notice were already correct and are left alone. --- messages/de.json | 10 +- messages/en.json | 10 +- messages/es.json | 10 +- messages/fr.json | 10 +- messages/it.json | 10 +- messages/pl.json | 10 +- src/app/achievements/page.tsx | 23 ++- src/app/insights/workouts/page-client.tsx | 16 +- src/app/medications/[id]/page.tsx | 24 +-- .../failed-read-never-empty.test.tsx | 174 ++++++++++++++++++ .../custom-metric-values-list.tsx | 12 +- .../nutrients/micronutrients-card.tsx | 14 +- .../mental-health/mental-wellbeing.tsx | 60 ++++-- 13 files changed, 330 insertions(+), 53 deletions(-) create mode 100644 src/components/__tests__/failed-read-never-empty.test.tsx diff --git a/messages/de.json b/messages/de.json index 768603e4d..df47d3c46 100644 --- a/messages/de.json +++ b/messages/de.json @@ -3036,7 +3036,8 @@ "crossTraining": "Cross-Training", "mixedCardio": "Mixed Cardio", "other": "Sonstiges" - } + }, + "loadError": "Deine Workouts konnten nicht geladen werden" }, "bloodGlucose": { "title": "Blutzucker", @@ -8279,7 +8280,9 @@ "finally": "Finally …" } }, - "openDetail": "Details anzeigen" + "openDetail": "Details anzeigen", + "historyLoadError": "Dein Testverlauf konnte nicht geladen werden", + "historyLoadErrorHint": "Das heißt nicht, dass keine Ergebnisse vorliegen — die Liste konnte nicht abgerufen werden.
